Finally figured it out


You would think that after constructing an maintaining four other blogs here on blogger I would be able to set up the fifth one in no time. But NO, that's not the way it happened. I started constructing this blog on July 1st of this year (2016). Unfortunately the last time I built a blog here was in 2009. Since that time, my memory of how I did it has been fading, not to mention the fact that Blogger has updated and changed things around here many times over the years. 

I think what I should do here is list all the posts I've written on a contrived blog (under one of my tabs, which is now gone) since July 1, 2016, when I started this whole thing. Please stay with me.....it'll make sense in a minute.....I hope.

Well, we're moving right along....getting closer to the goal of all this: the launching of my debut memoir on June 6th, 2017. It seems as though I'm in a continual social media frenzy....going from one page to another, making sure everybody has an idea of what's going on. I had a little trouble with my Face Book author page.....trying to come up with a decent header and coping with all the tech stuff required to set up the page. And, had a lot of trouble with Linked In yesterday. I wanted to post an excerpt from my book, and it looked like that was a possibility. But I could never figure it out so I gave up. Anyhow, I'm learning a lot, which will be a good thing when I eventually get to the second book I've started.

There is such a lot to do. I'm working with a hybrid/Indie publisher so I must do a large part of the work..... getting the book out and then working on publicity. I decided to make some changes to a couple of chapters and find that this last-minute crafting takes more time than I thought it would. There's been so much space in-between my submitting my MS and now, and I've sort of lost the sense of the whole book. But it's a great time to jump in again and give the whole thing a review.

My book cover has been approved and I'm hoping to get an image of it from my publisher soon, so I can post it here and on social medial sites. I applied at Good Reads for an author's page and am waiting to hear back from them. In the meantime, I'm trying to identify publicity I can do myself to get the word out about my book. You might think I have a lot of time (it doesn't launch until June of 2017) but, if I have to do most of the publicity myself, because of financial constraints, it really isn't.

 I'm learning more and more about this publishing process, including how publicists get the word out.  I am hoping I can do some of my own publicity, along with help from my marketing expert son-in-law, John. It's pretty expensive to hire a publicist. John has committed to making a video for me, including writing all the interview questions and getting it out there. I'm lucky to have his and my daughter's support and help on this.

As of today, I find myself immersed in the publishing process, with very little time to just chill out and blog. As soon as I get my author website functioning well and a handle on how we are going to market my book, I will try to post at least once a month. The front of the book cover is nearly finished, so when that's done, I will post it under the "books" tab. Additionally, those of you whose email addresses I already have will be receiving a newsletter with updates and an invitation to subscribe.
